The numbers tell part of the story: 349 reviews, a 4.8-star rating, and guests who visited three days in a row because they simply could not stop. Arrowhead Chocolates sits at 4 S Main St in Joseph, Oregon, a small town tucked against the base of the Wallowa Mountains, and it has quickly become the reason many visitors linger longer than planned.

This family-operated shop opened with a clear mission: make chocolate that lingers. Not a quick sweetness that fades on the tip of your tongue, but the kind of richness that stays with you well after the last bite. Every handcrafted truffle is built around that idea, with layers of flavor that reward slow enjoyment. The salted caramels have developed a loyal following of their own, the kind of thing people stuff into carry-on bags to bring home to friends.

Beyond the confections, Arrowhead doubles as a cafe where the iced mocha has earned its own devoted fans. Baked treats rotate through the case alongside the chocolates, and the owners are the sort of people who make you feel like a regular on your first visit. Joseph is a town worth seeking out, and Arrowhead is the kind of place that confirms you made the right call.

What We Offer

The chocolate case at Arrowhead Chocolates is where most visits begin and where most decisions get difficult. Rotating selections of artisan truffles arrive in flavors that range from classic dark ganache to creative seasonal combinations, each one made in small batches to keep quality consistent. The salted caramels are the runaway favorite, chewy and buttery with a finish that earns repeat purchases before you have even left the shop.

The cafe side of the counter keeps pace with the confections. The iced mocha is cold, bold, and exactly what a warm afternoon in eastern Oregon calls for. Hot drinks, fresh-baked goods, and a rotating lineup of dessert-shop treats round out the menu. Whether you are stopping in after a hike in the Wallowas or making Arrowhead the destination itself, there is enough variety to justify sitting down and staying a while.

Gift boxes and take-home assortments make it easy to bring a piece of Joseph, OR back with you. The shop's atmosphere is unhurried and genuinely welcoming, the kind of place where a quick stop reliably turns into twenty minutes of happy indecision.

"Arrowhead Chocolates is a must for any chocolate enthusiast. I tried 5 different truffles and every single one of them were deliciously rich in a way that lasted well after the bite. It's longevity makes the truffle size seem much larger in the end, which stretches the value of what you pay. I thought I'd only have one... yet here we are."

"On a rainy fourth of July walking into Arrowhead initially feels like haven. Warm cafe vibes mixed with rich chocolate aromas hit you right at the door. The service felt pressed. I don't know if it was large crowds for the holiday or what but by the time we got to the counter it felt like the vibe was "NEXT!" The worker at the counter of course didn't say it but everything felt kind of rushed. I should have taken more time to decide what I wanted but I didn't and it was because of the atmosphere of everything going on that I felt pressured to just pick something in a hurry. The hot chocolate was rich but had a ton of froth on the top. It felt like drinking froth for half the cup which I didn't really care for. Maybe they use cream and steamed it a bit too much, I don't know. The glob of chocolate syrup on the brim didn't seem intentional either and definitely didn't add to the experience other than getting chocolate sauce on my hand and beard. My wife enjoyed her white mocha and kept helping me see the positives through the coffee break. The truffles were small but intense, which is good considering they're almost $3/each. Mine was raspberry and it was pretty good. My wife ordered salted caramel and I didn't see her finish hers, but I'm sure she likes it. They have nice seating, including a mezzanine tucked in the back of the shop that a medium to large sized party could occupy for extra privacy and comfort. The mezzanine had a round table and chairs, surrounded by some leather seating. The bathrooms were clean and well stocked. Next time we're in Joseph we'll likely try this place again. I want to give it 5 stars and I think being there on a slower day would probably give that kind of experience."
